The Battle Of Gettysburg occurred during the Civil War from July 1-3, 1863. Union Major General George Gordon Meade's Army of the Potomac defeated attacks/assaults by Confederate General Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia, ending Lee's invasion of the North for good.
The picture below is Fort and Battle Grounds of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The blue lines are the Yankees and the red lines are the Confederates.
The picture below is Little Round Top, one of the hills that was defended at Gettysburg. It was successfully defended from Confederate assault on July 2, the second day of the Battle Of Gettysburg, by Colonel Strong Vincent and his troops.
The Union's casualties consisted of 3,155 dead, 14,530 wounded, and 5,365 missing which in total equaled 23,040 casualties.
The Confederate's casualties consisted of 2,600-4,500 dead, 12,800 wounded, and 5,250 missing which in total equaled 20,650-25,000 casualties. The picture below is one of the memorials for fallen soldiers at Gettysburg.
